UX Quotes

“User experience encompasses all aspects of the end-users interaction with the company, it’s services, its products.” -Sarah Gibbons

I like this quote because it shows how user experience is not limited to a single function. It’s not just the website or the product for sale on the website, it’s both of those things and more besides. When thinking about user experience we must consider how all the elements work together and how the user will feel about those systems.

“An experience involves the environment, how you feel, what you want, and all the different ways you can do it. An interface is the one tangible thing that you interact with.” – Dee Scarano

I like this quote because it is a succinct way to think about the difference between UX and UI. UX is about EXPERIENCE. The impression you get from interacting. UI is about the tangible, the actual buttons pushed, and levers pulled.

“How easy is it for you to grip that vegetable peeler?” – Emil Lamprecht

I like this quote because I can relate to the experience. The feeling of a vegetable peeler might seem like something of small consequence, but having owned an uncomfortable peeler, I know how important that detail is. I owned a brand of peeler for many years that I did not use because of the way the handle felt when I used it. It was both bulky and too slippery. When my alternate peeler dulled past the point of use, I threw both it and the bulky (but still sharp) peeler in the trash and bought a brand-new one. I remember the moment in the store when I breezed right past the brand that made the bulky peeler. I have never bought any other kitchen tool from that brand either, all based on my experience with that peeler. It just goes to show how important user experience is!

UX is the entire experience of a product, UI is the physical interaction with the product itself.
